Klaravich Stables’ Redistricting (GB) asserted his dominance at Monmouth Park on Saturday, leading from gate to wire to capture the $150,000 Monmouth Stakes in commanding fashion. The Chad Brown-trained gelding, sent off as the heavy 3-10 favorite, broke sharply under jockey Flavien Prat and never looked back.
Breaking from post two in the field of six, Redistricting (GB) immediately seized the advantage, setting comfortable fractions of 24.98 for the opening quarter-mile and 49.14 for the half. Pressed lightly by Izzy d’Oro on the backstretch, the son of Kingman (GB) traveled comfortably along the inside rail over the good turf course.
As the field rounded the far turn, Prat asked his mount for a bit more, and Redistricting (GB) responded with authority. He effortlessly shook clear of his rivals nearing the top of the stretch, opening up a 2 ½-length advantage.
Through the lane, the four-year-old extended his lead with every stride, cruising under the wire five lengths in front, completing the one and one-eighth miles in a final time of 1:49.78. The victory served as a powerful statement and an automatic, fees-paid entry into the Grade 1 United Nations Stakes on July 19.
“He broke well, and I was able to get to the lead,” said Prat. “He was relaxed on the front end. When it was time to go, he really responded well. He was very professional today and won easily.”
Otago, who tracked the winner from the inside throughout, finished gamely under Axel Concepcion to secure second place, proving to be the best of the rest. At the start, Atlast (FR), ridden by Jorge Ruiz, recovered from a bobble to rally mildly along the rail for third.
The victory marked the second win in three starts this year for Redistricting (GB), which Farm Cove Thoroughbreds Ltd bred in Great Britain. His impressive performance improved his career record to four wins from seven starts and boosted his lifetime earnings.
